365 beaches - one for every day of the year - and two of them are set within the grounds of our lovely new resort! This is a great destination to for single parent holidays. Antigua is surrounded by coral reefs and enjoys dry sunny days and cool trade winds. This Leeward Island is a dream destination for sun-lovers, water-babies and cricket-lovers.

The indented coastline could hide a thousand ships and in the 18th century Nelson's navy dropped anchor in English Harbour: do visit Nelson's Dockyard and Shirley Heights observation point high above - probably the best spot in the world for a sunset BBQ party!

The Verandah Resort & Spa

The Verandah Resort boasts its own spectacular setting on the island's East coast, the lawned gardens sprawling across 30 cliff-top acres overlooking two white-sand beaches tucked into sheltered coves. Add in a great kids club and this is an excellent all-inclusive resort for single parent holidays.

A hundred colonial-style cottages line the cliffs, each home to two spacious suites, each boasting its own private verandah. (Ocean view suites carry a supplement.) At the centre of this village-style resort are the main restaurant, bars and guest services, all overlooking the large free-form pool (there are two smaller pools in the grounds).

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in Seabreeze, the main à la carte restaurant with vaulted ceilings and cooling fans. The Buccaneer serves light meals and afternoon tea while Nicole's offers fine dining with a Caribbean flavour ($25 supplement, payable locally). Snacks are available from 11.00 to 18.00 at the Beach Side bar and restaurant. Drinks are available by the glass with meals and from the friendly bars both in the main buildings and by the pool.

The water-sports centre offers windsurfing, sunfish sailing, kayaking, hobie-cats and snorkelling. The fitness centre is well equipped, and there are tennis courts and other land activities on offer - all included in our All-inclusive package. The Tranquillity Spa offers a range of massages and treatments at extra cost.

The hotel is great for holidays for single parents, the Verandah welcomes families and the kids' club and pool are purpose built, self contained and away from the main areas. The resort's layout and cliff-top setting makes it unsuitable for those with walking difficulties. Further details of the kids area is on this section.

Easy excursions from the resort are boat trips to the uninhabited island sanctuary of Bird Island, the historic capital, St John's is 30 minutes by bus and Shirley Heights and the restored Nelson's Dockyard are half an hour along the coast.

Children's facilities

Your single parent holiday will be great fun and your kids will have a ball at our spacious and beautiful Kids Club, designed as an ideal hideout and fun getaway for potty-trained children ages 4 to 11, daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

This beautiful facility offers lots of room for kids to spread out, with an expansive, fenced-in outdoor play area shaded by large trees, as well as an exciting playscape and a sheltered back porch outdoors. Inside, the club is like a cosy undersea haven - surrounded by a beautiful and lifelike floor-to-ceiling mural that will make kids feel like they've walked into an aquarium!

Entertained and cared for by our trained counsellors, the kids will have a blast making crafts, playing games, or just enjoying some fun, free play on our safe and squishy rubber-mat floors. The comfy nap room is a cosy, quiet place where little ones can peacefully snooze. An onsite kitchenette and private bathrooms round out the Kid's Club facilities.

The kids club is self contained and has an excellent security system in operation for signing your children 'in and out', plus full CCTV throughout.

Whether your family is hungry for action or just wants to relax and be together, The Verandah is a great place for your next single parent holiday. By day, you can stay cool by the pool, explore the waters of our two beautiful sheltered beaches, or just build castles in the sand and enjoy the tropical scenery. To make an even bigger splash, you can sail, snorkel or enjoy the extensive array of complimentary non-motorized water sports. Challenging diving excursions, even lessons for guests of every level of ability, can be arranged for an additional charge with certified professional instructors.

Games, crafts and activities for little ones are offered daily at the Kid's Club, where your children will make friends with other little guests and have a rollicking good time with our staff of trained counsellors.
